A Glimpse into Our Cow Breeds

At Clover Creek, we take pride in the variety of cow breeds that call our farm home. Each one brings its unique traits and contributes to the rich flavor of our milk and cheese. Here’s a brief introduction to the special cow breeds we have selected for this year’s new calves:

  • Milking Shorthorn: With their striking red and white coats, Milking Shorthorns are known for their gentle demeanor and exceptional milk production. These versatile cows are a true asset to our farm, providing us with high-quality milk that turns into artisanal cheeses.
  • Fleckvieh: Hailing from the picturesque Alpine region, Fleckvieh cows are renowned for their hardiness and robust health. Their distinctive coloring, characterized by a striking combination of brown and white patches, adds a touch of rustic charm to our pastures.
  • Normande: Originating from the green hills of Normandy, France, Normande cows are prized for their rich, flavorful milk. With their elegant stature and speckled faces, these beauties bring a touch of sophistication to our farm.
  • Lineback: The only truly American breed that originated in New England, Linebacks are useful for milk, beef, and working oxen. You will easily recognize their distinct white line down the back coming in shades of black, red, or brown.
  • Tarantaise: Tarantaise cows, with their sleek red/brown coats and graceful movements, are a sight to behold. Bred for both milk and meat production, these animals embody the perfect balance of strength and elegance.
  • Jersey: Last but certainly not least, we have the beloved Jersey cows. With their doe-like eyes and warm caramel-colored coats, Jerseys steal hearts wherever they go. These gentle creatures produce milk that’s unrivaled in richness and flavor, making them indispensable members of our herd.
