Have you been following along with us on social media this month? We’ve been counting down the days until the arrival of this year’s baby cows. Can you believe we have sixty momma cows expecting calves from now until the end of April?
Did you take a guess in our calf contest this year? It’s always a fun time trying to predict! We will be emailing the winners later this week on how they can claim their prize.
So, let us tell you about the latest excitement on the farm. Mikaela and Ruthie were tucked into the calving shed last Thursday. They were looking like they might be close to having their babies, but when Anthony checked on them Thursday night, there were no babies yet. The anticipation was palpable!
Then, in the soft light of the early morning hours on March 8th, Mikaela surprised us all with not one, but two adorable additions to our farm family. Imagine the excitement when Amber arrived for chores and discovered the sweet surprise – twins!
We couldn’t be more thrilled to introduce you to Mezcal and Maldon! Mikaela, with her nurturing spirit, effortlessly embraced motherhood as she lovingly tended to her precious twins.
This year, we’ve decided to go with a baking theme for names, inspired by one of our favorite TV shows, The Great British Baking Show. Get ready to meet some calves named Soggy Bottom or Patisserie! Do you have any suggestions? Drop them in the comments below – we’d love to hear your ideas!
Now, let’s talk about our adorable duo. Mezcal, a spirited little girl, embodies vitality and grace. Her name comes from a Mexican distilled drink used by bakers to bring out sweet and smoky flavors in their recipes. Meanwhile, Maldon, a charming lad, exudes gentle strength – his name is inspired by a popular brand of salt used to flavor and season baking dishes.
Mikaela is a Fleckvieh cow, which is from the same area as the big Brown Swiss breed. Known for their big white heads and red bodies, this breed is one of our favorites. The twins’ father is a Normande bull, adding those distinctive red spots to their white faces.
Join us in celebrating the joyous spirit of new beginnings with Mezcal, Maldon, and the ever-growing family at Clover Creek Cheese Cellar. From our pastures to your plate, may the essence of our farm journey inspire moments of connection, laughter, and shared delight.
Stay tuned for more updates and heartwarming tales from our beloved farm. Until then, let’s revel in the simple joys of life and savor the sweet symphony of nature’s embrace.

Great name suggestion! Unfortunately we don’t have any more M cows.
